Coastal Community School is excited to offer a high school co-op program for high school home school students beginning August 2026 at Trinity Wellsprings Church, Mondays 9am-2pm, 15 days per semester. *2026-2027 Course Offerings will be announced soon. 

2025-2026 Course Offerings

 

Course Description: This year-long course is a college-prep course taught with a foundational view that God is the originator and sustainer of life. Students will understand overarching concepts in Biology: the criteria for life and classification systems. The course will survey the main characteristics within each biological kingdom. In this survey, they will learn about cellular structures and their functions in living cells, and how biological traits are passed on to successive generations. Students will assess the dependence of all organisms on one another and the flow of energy and matter within their ecosystems. During the year, students will perform microscopic and dissection investigations. Through writing formal lab reports and other homework, they will develop skills to communicate scientific investigations and information clearly.

Class Length: 1.5 hours

Curriculum: Apologia Exploring Creation with Biology and Apologia Biology Dissecting Lab Kit with Specimens
 

Instructor: Mrs. Brandy Brockhausen is a highly qualified tutor with many years of experience teaching as well as experience homeschooling her own two children. She has been teaching English and history at Coastal Community School for over 5 years.

Course Description: This year-long course develops students' skills in literary analysis, composition, vocabulary, and oral communication. Students will explore classic and contemporary works from a variety of genres and cultural perspectives, engage in thoughtful discussions, and create written and spoken responses to literature. Honors students will complete additional analytical assignments designed to deepen understanding and accelerate critical thinking.

Class Length: 1.25 hours

Curriculum: BJU English and The Art of Poetry; 5 books across genres, including Our Town, Animal Farm, and And Then There Were None. Honors: IEW Structure and Style Level 1C added.
 

Instructor: Mrs. Brandy Brockhausen is a highly qualified tutor with many years of experience teaching as well as homeschooling her own two children. She has been teaching English and history at Coastal Community School for over 5 years.

Course Description: This year-long course explores the physical and human geography of the world. Students will examine Earth's major physical features, climate zones, ecosystems, and cultures across continents and regions. Through projects, map work, case studies, and current events, students will develop geographic literacy and a global perspective.

Class Length: 1.25 hours

Curriculum: BJU Cultural Geography and several novels, including Red Scarf Girl and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
 

 

 

2026-2027 Course Offerings

Instructor: Mrs. Brandy Brockhausen is a highly qualified tutor with many years of experience teaching as well as experience homeschooling her own two children. She has been teaching English and history at Coastal Community School for over 6 years.

Course Description: This year-long course develops students’ skills in literary analysis, composition, vocabulary, and oral communication. Taught from a biblical worldview, the course encourages students to analyze both classic and contemporary works through the lens of God’s truth, exploring universal themes such as identity, morality, justice, and redemption in light of Scripture. Students will read a variety of genres and cultural perspectives, engage in thoughtful discussions, and create written and spoken responses that reflect discernment and critical thinking. Honors students will complete additional analytical assignments designed to deepen understanding and challenge them to evaluate how worldview shapes literature and communication.

Class Length: 1.25 hours

Curriculum: Abeka Composition IV and A Short Story Collection (British focus); 5 books across genres, including the War of the Worlds, Fahrenheit 451, Pride and Prejudice, A Study in Scarlet, and Death of a Salesman. Honors: IEW Structure and Style Level 1or 2 C added.

Course Description: This course explores the story of humanity from Creation to the modern era through the lens of a biblical worldview. Students will study the rise and fall of civilizations—Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, Europe, and the Americas—examining how geography, culture, belief systems, and leadership shaped the world we know today. Central to the course is understanding God’s sovereign hand throughout history and how His redemptive plan unfolds through nations, events, and individuals.

Class Length: 1.25 hours

Curriculum: BJU World History, 6th ed., 4 novels: The King's Fifth, The Boy Who Dared, The Eagle of the Ninth, and A Tale of Two Cities

Course Description: This course introduces students to the study of matter, energy, and the interactions that govern the physical world—with an emphasis on God as the Designer and Sustainer of all creation. Students will explore atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, stoichiometry, states of matter, solutions, acids and bases, and thermodynamics. Through hands-on laboratory investigations, students will develop skills in observation, measurement, data analysis, and maintaining proper scientific procedures and safety.

Class Length: 1.5 hours

Curriculum: Discovering Design with Chemistry

Course Description: This course extends students’ understanding of algebraic concepts and prepares them for advanced study in mathematics. Topics include linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and polynomial functions; systems of equations and inequalities; complex numbers; sequences and series; and an introduction to trigonometric functions. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, reasoning, and real-world application of mathematical principles.

Class Length: 1 hour twice a week

Curriculum: Saxon Algebra II

Course Description: Building on the foundations of Spanish I, this course deepens students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the Spanish language. Students will expand their vocabulary, master more complex grammatical structures, and develop greater confidence in conversational and written communication. Cultural study is an important component of the course, as students explore the traditions, geography, and daily life of Spanish-speaking countries across the world. Through interactive activities, dialogues, and projects, students will strengthen both linguistic skills and cultural awareness, preparing them to engage meaningfully in a global community.
